Rain delays at Nationals Park rarely bode well for my team. They don’t like not being able to get out there when they’re ready…
I think adrenaline changes from fuel to poison in their bodies when they have to wait.
Rain delays make everybody sad.
This is what it looked like when we got to the ballpark last night.
OK. Cool. We’ve got this.
We knew it was raining.
We knew the possiblity existed that we’d be dealyed. In fact, we sat at home debating whether or not to even go. But, YBW wanted the ‘Election Night’ give away, so we decided to brave the rain.
My husband is a curious beast…but I adore him!
As we sat (undercover) and watched the rain come down, I suggested we wait till 8:00 and make a decision then.
I was rocking my lularoe leggings with my “Respect the (curly) W” tee and my Werth jersey. I didn’t wear my Zim jersey because he wasn’t playing last night. YBW teased me that just wanted to wear my red jersey because he and Thing C were wearing their white jerseys and I just wanted to be different.
Um…no, dude. Sometimes I just need to rep the Hobo!
Of course, by the time 8:00 came around, I’d just gotten a beer…I mean I had to finish it, right? And, only a moment later, it was announced that play would begin at 8:45. We decided to stay put!
The crew came out to fold up the tarp.
OK! Let’s do this!
This job fascinates me…but I’m glad it’s not my job. Those guys work their booties off!
Well, as it turns out…the rain never really stopped, it just became a fine mist and the wind picked up. So damp clothes and breezy conditions make for chilly baseball fans. The score was 4-1 in the Marlins favor and we were pretty much done.
We gave up just in time to miss Rendon hit a dinger and then Stephen Drew follow him with another one to tie the score.
Miami ended up winning 7-4.
I’m telling you, rain delays don’t bode well for my Washington Nationals.
It’s OK though, we’re the NL East champions! We’re going to play (and beat) the Dodgers to get to the Cubs (that’ll be a miracle, but we’re due one) to then get to the World Series. At least, that’s the plan. The Dodgers will be tough for us…we only beat them once in six games this season.
But I’ve got my #Natitude so I say, “Bring it!”
My friend and mentor just so happens to be here in Virginia teaching a group of preschool teachers. She and her beloved, one of the most delightful men on the planet, stayed the weekend to spend time with her grandson. YBW and I were lucky enough to be able to meet them for an early dinner yesterday in Winchester.
I’ve been going to Winchester my entire life. My grandparents lived there, my dad grew up there. Let me tell you something: Winchester isn’t like it used to be. They’ve worked hard to make the little downtown area hip. It was not remotely hip during the seventies and eighties.
YBW’s never been so we decided to head out early, that gave us time to wander at our leisure before we met for dinner.
We went into this great little shop Make Nest Interiors because YBW saw this on a drastic sale.
It’s a globe stand, sans the globe. I think we should put some sort of glass sphere in there…perhaps even a disco ball. He’s not buying into the disco ball. He’s smart like that, cause I’m just being ridiculous for my own entertainment.
BUT…while we were in there looking around, I found our wedding wine glasses!
They’re absolutely perfect! I’m very excited!
This wedding thing becomes more real each day. I’m ready. Let’s go!
We tasted cake on Friday evening and chose some pretty delicious almond flavored cake. Our Wash and Zoe are going to be pretty adorable on top of it.
Tomorrow we’re meeting with the event coordinator at the winery.
Wedding. Wedding. Wedding.
I love it, but I may need a nap.
Right now the Nats game is on, my fave, Jayson Werth hit a two run dinger and I’m happy. Stephen Strasburg can’t pitch worth a damn. But it’s OK, I’ve got my sweetie next to me on the sofa, a beer in a glass on the table in front of me and I might take a nap when the game is over.
Thing 2 comes the day after tomorrow! Our countdown is almost over! I told her today that I was going to smother her with kisses and she replied that “super-duper Thing 2 hugs” were headed my way! (That’s what she called her crazy tight hugs when she was a little girl, so I know what to expect!)
It’s a pretty great Robynbird day! Beautiful glasses to toast with my husband on our wedding day. Nats on the telly and beer in my glass. Thing 2 here Tuesday morning. And most likely a nap.
Now that’s what I’m talking about.

I took the day off to do estate stuff…which included me going to the antique coin shop, an antique shop and going to the bank.
As it turns out, the coins Daddie had are pretty much worthless above face value. Some of the old dimes are worth about a dollar and ten cents and the Kennedy half dollars are worth about two dollars because of the silver content. (Um, OK…thanks.)
The girl at the antique shop told me they do buy silverware and handmade lace, the owner wasn’t in the shop today, and she does the buying, but I can call her and set up a time to come in if I’d like. (Super…thanks.)
The bank was a bit more successful, but not exactly what I was expecting.
I’m so over “estate stuff” I could scream.
My brother, who complains he’s three thousand miles from home and miserable, is selling off all my Dad’s woodshop and mechanic tools and using the money to buy heroin. (Awesome.) Then he’s up my ass about what I am and am not getting done. (Oh I’m sorry, does the fact I work full time keep me from getting stuff done and that displeases you? Well too damn bad for you. Go back from whence you came…I’m sure I can handle this without your input.)
Of course he can’t go back to the west coast because he hasn’t any money…so I’m stuck with him and his crap attitude. I believe he expects a big payday when all is said and done…well that’s not going to happen.
It’s OK because I’m going about my business and doing what needs to be done for my life and the estate. I’ve spent forty one years worrying about him and I think it’s time for me to stop. It’s hard though, because I can’t just say: I’m going to need for you to get it together. He hasn’t gotten it together in forty one years…and that’s his issue not mine, it’s just easier for me to ignore it when he’s there and not here.
On a more positive note, I’m feeling really great about my new classroom at school and I’m absolutely mad about my co-teacher. She and I work beautifully together! We have similar points of view but come at things from different places, so we compliment each other well. She came from a four year old class and I came from a two year old class, so we’re meeting in the middle with these three year olds. I know where they’re coming from and she knows where they’re headed and we are successfully combining our know how to make a great classroom. I’m so pleased with the progress we’ve made in two short weeks. It makes me love being a preschool teacher again.
I’m going to watch a bit of Baltimore baseball…my Nationals are having a respite tonight after kicking the asses of the Rockies three times this week. I love that I’ve helped YBW learn to like baseball…even if the heat was unbearable Tuesday night, I got my Nats blankie and I was happy. YBW said, I don’t normally like to sweat this much unless there are orgasms involved. I just cackled and folks looked at us but I didn’t care, I was with my own precious darling watching my favorite game. And we won!
What a great Robynbird week!
