Sunday morning at the home site 6.20.21

This week at the house there are good things and bad things.

Good things:
fridge is in

microwave is in

shower fixture is in

I figured out I can install swings under the deck

And when I say swings, I mean a bench ‘porch swing’ style swing, but I also mean ‘playground swing’ style swings.
From this angle, the porch style swing will be in the back of the shot hanging so the swing faces away from the house in front of the two stationary doors.
The playground swing swings will hang in the front of the shot parallel to the side of the house.
While Baby K isn’t a fan of swinging, her Mommy, Auntie, and Birdie sure as hell are and you can be damned sure to find me out there swinging as often as possible!

windows are FINALLY in

Bad things:

that fridge isn’t the one I wanted, but the one I had to settle for

that window up on the fourth floor is fucking white

I spoke with the building manager who told me they painted it and “it looks like crap”. The new bronze window has been reordered. (apparently the guy at the window company never actually ordered about half of what he was meant to so he no longer works for the window company and the new woman is on top of all the chaos…this is me still not holding my breath)
If worse comes to worst they’ll replace the window after we close.
I’m over here like, well, at least it won’t rain in our house anymore…?

So window ridiculousness aside, our home is coming along nicely!

Sunday morning at the home site 6.13.21

Stupid construction vehicle parked in my driveway!
But…I love the dark siding and entry color.
And…railings up on the front.
And…some landscaping.

First coat of stain on the stair treads and I’m loving the way this looks.

They built the deck off the living room last week.
YBW is all about that telescoping door, y’all!

Here’s the deck view from the roof terrace.

Front roof terrace banister railings are finally in too!

I’m leaning towards creating a potted garden out here, but still not completely sold.
What would y’all do with this space?

Meanwhile we’re still missing windows…
Spoke with the building manager Monday, he says they (the window people) told him June 17.
I’m over here not holding my breath…

But the excitement continues to build.

Sunday morning at the home site 6.6.21

Siding is going up on the front and back of the house!

Railing on the roof terrace is finally in place and I gotta tell y’all, the view is great, the breeze is spectacular, and I’m so ready to enjoy cocktails in this space!
Overstock was having a good sale and I had a twenty percent off coupon, so we ordered furniture for the roof terrace. Partially delivered, sitting in our current dining room in boxes ready to move and be assembled as soon as we arrive.

Tankless water heater was finally installed!

We close in fifty one days!
So much more to get done, but we’re so ready!

Sunday morning at the home site 5.30.21

And then there was a garage door.

Another coat of paint this week.
I love the ethereal quality of the plastic protecting the handrail and banister. Especially how it moved and sounded as we walked by.

We have appliances!

oven but no microwave (yet)

cooktop

dishwasher

Bathroom cabinets are finally where the belong.
Of course the hardware is wrong…

Still no windows…
(Eh, there’s time. We don’t close for another fifty-nine days.)

Sunday morning at the home site 5.23.21

We have a driveway and house numbers!!

We’re still waiting for windows. (I mean, of course we are…who needs windows?)
The cabinets are still in the wrong place but per a weekly update email, that should be sorted soon.
Also, siding and plumbing fixtures will begin this week.

YBW and I measured out the dining table.
Ten feet long by four feet wide.
We’ve got ten people in our immediate family, and (the appropriate number of) friends. I’m enthusiastic about creating this wonderful place to gather!
I discovered the guy who’s going to make out table on Etsy.

The squee is real, y’all!

Sunday morning at the home site 5.16.21

I’ve been waiting for the day when we walked up to the house and found the doors locked.
Sunday this week was that day.
But I didn’t have a sad face because I was also at the house Friday this week meeting with the building manager.
We discussed the cabinets again. He remarked that he’d informed the cabinet guy, but also quickly owned up to dropping the ball when it came to following up. He was leaving us in our house to go meet with the cabinet guy so he would handle it straight away.
Stay tuned…
Hey, at least I didn’t have to use my teacher voice on them.

He did tell us he loves that we come over to the house. I asked him when the doors would start being locked. He replied they should always be locked, but then he held his hand out for my notebook and wrote four numbers before handing it back to me.
So when we got to the house Sunday morning and the interior garage door was locked, we simply punched in the code and walked through the front door.
(Thaaaaaanks, Tommyyyyyyy!)

I was in full on SQUEE mode when I came up the stairs!

We have light fixtures!
I absolutely adore the choice we made in the kitchen!
The kitchen and my shower are currently my favorite spaces in the house…

These pendants are (will be?) on either side of our bed. They’re just don’t have their pretty on yet.

Exterior lights in the front, none on the back yet.
Stay tuned on the cabinet saga.
And those windows are still “coming”…

It becomes more real each week y’all!

IWotB 2021 edition ~ day six

I left the house at eight am Friday morning and didn’t return to it until nearly eight pm.
It was exhausting.
However, I was able to have a really great day!

I went to Lidl to pick up a pod swing Thing 1 wanted for Baby K.
Across the street to Costco for gas. (pulled right up to the pump, thank goodness)
After that, I was at a loss. I had to meet YBW at the new house at 11:30 so I just needed to kill time until then.
Turns out, Nora was available to meet for breakfast, so that killed an hour.
I came back to my neighborhood to drop off something for Meredith and Beau’s mom. (down the street there were three cars in front of my house – all the randos)

At the new house, YBW and I met with the building manager. He was making his list and I was adding to it. He was sincerely apologetic about the cabinets, saying he had spoken with the cabinet guy but then dropped the ball on following up. Fortunately, he was meeting with the cabinet guy right after he saw us, so we’re all gonna cross our fingers.
Our meeting was productive, and I’m content I didn’t have to use my teacher voice with him.
Shame they have to do more work, but that bit isn’t my problem.
Apparently the windows are ‘still coming’ the question is when…

It was 12:20 when I hit the road out to Thing 1’s house. Baby K was asleep when I arrived, so I was able to help Thing 1 do a bit of work around the house.
They’re finally settling in, they have much more to do, but in the six weeks they’ve lived there, they’ve made decent progress.
Last week, she took a bunch of plants home from our house and they’re on the porch at her house looking somewhat healthy. Husband N was working from home Friday and cleared all the unkempt flower bed so they could assess what was there (peonies and lilacs and hostas), and begin to decide where to plant other things.
Y’all, their house is so damn precious and I love seeing them turn it into their home!

My tiny girl work from her nap as I was in the kitchen washing my hands. She saw me and stopped, it took a moment to register what was up.
I said, “Hi Chicken.”
She said, “BEE!” and ran to me wrapping her arms around my legs and squeezing me tight, then she planted a big kiss on the back of my thigh.
I quickly dried my hands and scooped her up.
All the Baby K love!
Thing 1 needed to go to Target, so we three girls had a little road trip. OK, their Target is small, but good. And has some seriously great employees! Super helpful and friendly.

I was meeting YBW at the Mexican joint for dinner, so I left my daughter’s family at six and was sitting down to a big ass bowl of queso about forty minutes later.

First day of showings saw fifteen appointments and three agents contacted ours saying their clients were planning to write offers.
We’ll see how that goes.

Day six of International Week of the Birthday was even more wonderful than I expected!
I got to see two of my friends, my husband at the new house (in the middle of the day no less), spent time with my daughter and granddaughter, did a Target run, and had melty cheese!
I’ll take it!

Sunday morning at the home site 5.9.21

Flooring and tile.
Proper door handles and gold, nickel, black cabinet hardware.
Backsplash and waterfall.
The squee is real, y’all.

ground floor bath

Can you see that precious floor tile peeking out right by the tub?
Meanwhile it’s still the wrong cabinet and they’ve already built the countertop and sink.
I’m curious to see how this ends.

quartz waterfall

This kitchen is my favorite space.
I wonder if I’ll feel differently when the railing is finally up on the roof terrace?

quartz backsplash

gorgeous LVP floor

The raw wood on the banisters and the stair treads and landings will be stained dark to compliment the floors.

these banisters though

This blue wavy tile in my shower is downright life affirming!
I can hardly wait to get in there.

ocean waves

We’re still missing windows on the front…but we’ve been assured they’ll arrive “the beginning of May”.
The cabinet in that belongs in the loft powder room is still in the ground floor bathroom, and vice versa…but the building manager “informed the cabinet company”.

‘Tis but a scratch.
Am I right?

It’ll all get sorted before we sign our names, give them a shit-ton of money, and well before we move in.
In the meantime, I’m going to continue to squee!

Sunday morning at the home site 5.2.21

Tuesday last I got a text from YBW.
This photo and his words, Flooring going in.

Because of that, I was more enthusiastic than normal to get to the house Sunday morning.
My enthusiasm paid off because floor tile was laid in both the main and hall bathrooms last week!

hall bath

our bath

All the tile for the ground floor bath is stacked up and waiting to go.

YBW found cool vent covers that use a piece of the flooring to blend into the floor. Now we’re on a mission to get enough pieces of each flooring type to make that work.
We found a small piece of the hall bath tile but none of the main bath. But, the dumpster sits right out in front of the house next door, so YBW checked to see what he could find.
We brought home some scraps and I washed them.

On the left is the main bath tile. Hall bath on the right.

AND(!!) we got the settlement date!
July 28.
Though it may sound far away, in reality it’s only around the corner!

Sunday morning at the home site 4.25.21

On the way to the house I told YBW I was hopeful there would be cabinets in the house. He reminded me of proposed timing and dates and surmised there may not be cabinets. He didn’t want me to get my hopes up and be disappointed. I agreed with his point but reassured him I would remain hopeful. I looked at it this way, if cabinets were in I’d be happy, if they weren’t it didn’t hurt me to be hopeful about it, because they’d probably be in the following week.

G U E S S!! W H A T!!
Y’all! I came up the stairs and squealed! YBW was behind me but I simply couldn’t move. He said, “Stop squealing and take a picture!”
Oh yeah, he wanted to get up the stairs too.

The photo below is from the dining room, you can see the fridge cabinet in the foreground and the oven cabinet in the back.
The island sides aren’t painted because they’ll be covered with the quartz waterfall.

Each of the bathrooms have cabinets too. Only, the loft floor powder room’s white cabinet is down in the ground floor bath and that gray one is up in the loft. And y’all, I need that loft loo to be all white, I have big wallpaper plans for that space.

Our conundrum was how to report the news without spilling the beans that we’re there trespassing each week?
We began to talk it out, YBW was like, so we know we’re not supposed to be on property without and escort. He stopped and looked at me, I’m over here like, nope nope. I know eventually we’ll be locked out of the house and our Sunday morning ritual will have to end, but I’m not ready for that to happen just yet.
What we decided on was simply stating facts and I wrote an email to the building manager that looked a bit like: Hey, these cabinets are in the wrong place. Thanks.
(I wrote the email because YBW was driving)
We haven’t heard anything…yet.

I’m hopeful they don’t start locking us out now, but if they do, at least I’ve seen those gorgeous kitchen cabinets!
I grabbed his hand in the car and was like, do you have even a teeny bit of squee? I mean I don’t expect you to be on my level of squee, but are you excited?
He said, “Yes, I am excited, but what is a single light compared to the sun?”
He totally gets me!
