Answer their questions.
Nominate 11 bloggers.
Provide 11 questions for your nominees.

DM’s not messing around with these questions, and it’s taken me a hot second to get it together enough to answer, but here goes!

What do you do on a daily basis to achieve your dreams?
Make lists.
Journal.

What would you like to achieve by the end of this year?
To be truly comfortable in my environment.

What do you do when you feel the need to motivate yourself?
First I have a little “come to Jesus” with myself about getting it together then I make a list.

What easy change could you make in your life which would have a great impact?
Saying goodbye to Coca Cola.
And quite possibly, being less of an uptight control freak. Caring less about what others do or don’t do, or do differently than I do. Most importantly, remembering that caring less does not mean loving less. I can love others without actively wrapping myself around the axel giving f**ks about how they do what they do.

Which is the biggest obstacle you face right now?
Time management.
Lately, mine is crap. Even my mad planning skills sometimes can’t help me when I need to get it together.

Which area in your life needs most of your attention?
School.
(School school, not work school.)

What is your biggest enemy?
Being distracted.

What is your most useful hobby?
I’m going to have to say reading. As far as I can tell, it’s the simplest way to learn as much as you can without even getting up off your duff.

Which part of the world is a “wanted to visit” and why?
Istanbul, Turkey.
Why? I think because I’m fascinated that it’s been around for as long as it has. Byzantium, Constantinople, now Istanbul. (Y’all hear They Might Be Giants too, right?) I loved learning about the Ottoman Empire in World History. I’m awed by the way so many cultures came together to create this place!
That’s not really a why that makes any kind of sense, but all I can say is that I’m fascinated and long to be there!
St. Petersburg, Russia.
Why? History. Culture. The ballet. It would be a dream come true for me to spend time in this city.

What do you want the most in this life and why?
To successfully live my intention.
Why?
I believe actively living with courage and kindness, and doing everything in love will fulfill my soul’s quest in this life.

What is the most interesting you’ve learned about yourself this year?
I remembered something about myself this year.
I love solitary road trips. They’re good for the soul. And the brain. The time I was able to spend with myself was positive and filled with ideas.
Most of all, it was filled with kindness. I was able to really able to be loving and kind to myself.
That’s always a wonderful thing!

My Questions
This feels a little ‘Bridge of Death’ scene to me…but we’re going to trudge on anyway. Feel free to imagine me asking these questions in Terry Gilliam’s ‘Old Man’ voice knowing you’re not going to get catapulted into the ‘Gorge of Eternal Peril’.

1. What book most influenced you as a child/teen, and why?
2. What is your most beloved birthday memory?
3. What is your favorite destination, and why?
4. What advice would you give your twelve year old self?
5. Do you collect anything? If so, what, and why? (Y’all I’m using the term ‘collect’ loosely here.)
6. What is your personal theme song, and why?
7. What are you looking forward to?
8. Do you prefer reading physical books or on a tablet, and why?
9. With what person, real or imagined, living or dead, would you most like to spend one day?
10. What’s your guilty pleasure?
11. What is your spirit animal?

communication is (sometimes a tricky) key

Communication is key.
That’s a saying, right? I’m not dreaming that up, am I? Nopity nope. Not dreaming it up, I just Googled it.

I know that I’m “wordy”. I also know that I’d make a terrible poker player. My face completely fails at hiding my thoughts. Apparently my facial expressions come across as offensive when I’m being wordy. My facial expressions happen as I’m trying to make sense of what I’m saying. But it seems the perception is that my face is saying is that I think everyone else is an idiot.
Do I think everyone else is an idiot? Um…no.
What I think is I’m trying to answer questions I’m being asked…and doing a “double check” in my brain to make sure I know what I’m talking about and that the answers are correct as much as I know. This is what shows on my face.
I grow weary of being told I look like I think people are stupid. Especially when it’s the furthest thing from my mind.
My initial reaction is, “I give up.” So much so that I say it out loud even.
But that’s not realistic. And I’m not a quitter…
So, I have made a bargain with myself to “fix my face” when I talk. I’m hopeful it works to change the perception of what I’m thinking. Because no matter how many times I’ve said what’s actually going on in my head, folks get their feelings hurt.
I don’t want to hurt folks’ feelings. I’m just trying to understand what’s coming out of my own mouth.
Sometimes I wonder if I should just write everything and never actually talk. When I write, I can edit as I go…and that would take care of the facial expressions. (I make the same faces when I write, but nobody ever sees them.)

I don’t want to be forced into changing who I am…but I’m weary of hurting folks’ feelings. I’m weary of having explain myself.
Communication doesn’t have to be this tricky, right?

ask LuLaRoe questions and get LuLaRoe answers

20160315_140839.jpg

My investigation is heating up!
I met with the lovely LuLaRoe consultant this morning for more info about becoming a consultant. She shared such great information with me, answered all my questions, and assured me of her help every step of the way.
The more I learn and understand, the more excited I become.

I still need to go over everything with YBW before I move forward. But the answers I got today have convinced me this is the thing for me!

Came home and got comfy in my (free/earned) “butter soft” leggings while I do laundry and wait for the “bug guy” to show up. (for scheduled maintenance)

What are you?

I have a friend who is a veterinarian.
I have friends who are educators.
I have a friend who is an educator of educators.
I have a friend who is a dental hygienist.
I have a friend who is an engineer.
I have a friend who is a small business owner.
I have a friend who is a retired Naval officer.
I have a friend who is a hair stylist.
I have a friend who is a nurse.
YBW is a DBA.

Though I am an educator, when this question comes at me I don’t answer it with that label.
I answer like this:
I am a girl.
I am a mom.
I am a writer.
I am a photographer.
And then I say I’m an early childhood educator.

Why is it: What are you?
Why is it: What do you do?

Why do we identify ourselves this way?
Why isn’t it:
Who are you?
And I don’t mean the answer should be: I am Robynbird. I mean it should be who are you in your thoughts? Who are you in your heart? Who are you in your passions?

I believe the question should be: What are you passionate about?
Wouldn’t we get so much more from that answer? Learn interesting and important things about a person? Make a connection?

Next time I meet someone I’m going to ask that question. I encourage you to do the same.
Actually, I’m going to ask you: What are you passionate about? Please share your answers in the comments. I want to know interesting and important things about you that I may not learn from reading your writings.
