o Christmas tree(s)

With all the wrapping finished, Thing 1 and I decided to take on another holiday project.
Yarn trees.

Last weekend I watched a reel on Instagram and was like, “Pfft! I can totally make that!”
Thing 1 was all, “I’m so here for it!”

We got foam shapes and made yarn choices at Michaels, went home waited for Baby K to take a nap then got to work.

Y’all, my daughter has always been a natural craft-artist and made this work for her from the moment she began this project.

Not satisfied with the trees we made, we returned to Michaels armed with coupons and rewards dollars for different yarn choices and more foam shapes.
We started with varying shades of green and white/cream and added grays and a white with rainbow-colored iridescent strands.
To say I’m pleased with the results is an understatement.

Now I’m asking:
What can I get up to next? (so much yarn to choose from)
Do y’all have any interest in being crafty? Do you do homemade holiday decorations?
Or is that all too much for you? Am I just super extra for doing this?

ribbon and bows

Bows are one of my specialties. I learned how to make them from one of the old girl scout moms when I was a teenager. I’ve been making them ever since. I mostly make them to go on wreaths.
(like this new one)

I love choosing ribbon for bows!
Sundance and I went shopping for ribbon Wednesday and I made two sets of bows for her.
The first is burlap with tiny navy anchors. (Her husband is a retired Senior Chief.)
I don’t even like anchors and I freaking LOVE this ribbon!

The second is the most adorable green gingham!

I absolutely adore gingham!

I’m making a new wreath for the front door to usher in spring. I asked YBW to choose between two different ribbons because I couldn’t decide. Much to my joy, he chose the polka dots!
I removed the bow from one of the wreaths I used for the church doors when we got married. Spray painted a wooden letter yellow, hot glued it on and attached the bow.
Volia!

I’m finished with cold winter weather!
Nats pitchers and catchers reported to Viera, FL for spring training this morning. That’s a sure sign spring is on it’s way!
March first (start of meteorological spring) cannot come soon enough, I’m ready to hang this new wreath on the front door!

we’re gettin’ crafty up in here

YBW and I decided to make wine bottle candle holders for the tables at our reception. We’ve been saving bottles for a bit and ended up with two dozen.
I watched loads of youtube videos and read everything I could about how to do it. We got a wine bottle cutting kit and went to town.

YBW started to score them while I got the next step ready.

We tricked the bottles into breaking by dipping them in simmering water and then into an ice bath. This worked the way we wanted it to most of the time…some of the bottles broke in ways that were undesired, and a even a few that were unexpected.
We sanded them and cleaned them and lined them up.

We started out with twenty four bottles and ended up with fourteen that we could use.

Add a bit of sand and a tea light and voila, a cool decoration for the tables.
We’re so dang crafty.
