it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas up in here!
And I couldn’t be happier!

This is the tree in our living room at the back of the house, where we spend the most time each day.
I’ll put YBW’s and my pressies under this tree for us to open Christmas morning.

Pencil tree in the basement. I’ll be enjoying this as I wrap pressies and watch Christmas movies!

The big tree in the front room will go up when the boys come home this weekend. Their pressies will go under this tree to be opened Christmas Eve before they leave for their mother’s house.

Thing 2 and I found these trees when we were out one afternoon and I absolutely could not resist them! The kind of remind me of Dr Seuss trees. I just hope the Grinch doesn’t show up and stuff them up the chimney!

I absolutely adore Christmas kissing balls!
Traditional kissing ball painted with mistletoe.

YBW found this ball of cotton when we were in Savannah, and we knew it would be a new kissing ball. It took me a bit to find the perfect ribbon to make the bow, but it turned out perfectly. When anyone walks into our house, it’ll be there waiting…and let me assure you, I’ll be right there under it, waiting for my kisses.

All the baby Jesuses are out…but you’ll have to wait to see them.
Oh how I love Christmas! I can’t wait to start wrapping pressies!

I’m the happy elf!

I took all the gifts from the hidey closet yesterday. I sat in the floor surrounded by boxes of wrapping paper and bags of bows on one side and the bags of pressies on the other. Netflix gave me White Christmas and I began to wrap.

All the special Christmas Eve gifts (always new jammies and a book) went under the little tree in the family room

The rest went under the big tree in the front room.

YBW carried them all up and dropped them off, I haven’t organized them yet.

I’ve wrapped every single gift we’ve already purchased. More gifts will come in the next couple weeks. Oh how I love to wrap gifts!
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

I found out yesterday that both Thing 1 and Thing 2 will be here for Christmas this year! This makes me so happy I can hardly stand it!
Need to get new stockings and hangers…meeting Sundance Friday for a little shopping.

I’m totally the Happy Elf!!

gettin’ in the mood (for Christmas)

Now that Thanksgiving is in my rear view mirror, I can head towards my most favorite holiday of all! (I may have squealed a little when I typed that.)

I potted a tiny spruce tree in the giant pot on my front porch yesterday, going to light and top it today.
All three trees are up. Two are lighted. None are decorated.

Made new bows, one for the tree on the porch, one for the brand new tree downstairs.

Three of the (I won’t tell you exactly how) many nativities are up.
This is the brand newest one! I found it in this teeny shop, it was hand carved in Ecuador.

On today’s agenda: Light the big tree and the porch tree. Decorate all three trees. Set up the rest of the nativities. Finish other decorating. Find ornaments for these three boys and Thing 2’s D.
I give each kid an ornament every year for Christmas so that eventually when they have their own tree they’ll have ornaments to put on it.

I just downloaded new Christmas tunes including James Brown’s Funky Christmas! Thing C might be the only other one to appreciate that as much as I do.

It’s “small business Saturday” and we’re going to zip over Old Town to see what we might need…after a bit of breakfast.

Like Brian Setzer I’m Gettin in the Mood (for Christmas) (Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!)

two weeks notice

Two weeks from tomorrow is the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
You know what that means?

Time to get CHRISTMASY up in here!
Trees and ornaments.
All the baby Jesuses.
Wreaths and stars.
Jingle bells. Santa Claus and Ho Ho Ho.
And mistletoe and presents to pretty girls.

I’m SO ready!!
Since I missed Halloween this year, I’ve decide to “emotionally/mentally” skip the giving of thanks and move straight into Christmas.

The boys will be with their mom for Thanksgiving and YBW and I will pick up his mom and go to his brothers. I feel ambivalent about it, but I don’t have to do any prep work so I’m good. I just hope I’ll get the watch the whole parade before we leave home.

YBW won’t put up trees without the boys being here. Luckily they’ll come back here Friday. That means Saturday can be: All Christmas All the Time!
I’m ready to set up nativities.
I’m ready to wrap pressies.
I’m ready to hang stockings.

Two weeks from tomorrow…
Must. Be. Patient.

it’s the most wonderful time of the year

My three year olds tie-dyed socks to hang in our classroom as stockings.

P1010998

We found a huge branch on the playground brought it in and decorated it for our tree.
We are celebrating the holidays (Hanukkah and Christmas, but not Kwanzaa because we don’t have any students who celebrate it at home.) with food and families. We’re reading books about food and families. Books like Cupcake, and The Mice of Bistrot des Sept Freres. Both these books have recipes in the back to create the yummies we’re reading about in the pages so we’re going to prepare and enjoy them in class.
The kids have been taking about how they love to cook with their parents which lead to us asking for stories and recipes important to the families. These stories and recipes will become a classroom family cookbook.

My home has all the nativities set up and ready, the menorah waiting to be lit, one tree up and lighted (though not yet decorated) and the other to be put up this weekend when Things C and G come home.
YBW and I were standing in the kitchen early yesterday morning and I said: Have I told you today how much I love Christmas?
YBW said: Not today, no.
Me: I SUPER love Christmas!
YBW: I know you do, baby.
Me breaking into song: It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
