what a busy day

I know last week I was bemoaning missing out on back to school time. But Friday morning I got so much done I remembered why not being at school every day is an OK thing.
I got up and checked the sub-system, to my (not at all) surprise, there were no open sub jobs.
I got my gear and went out to do a little gardening.

I have these gigantic white butterfly bushes in front of our house. I prune them every other year, this is the year y’all. They’re taller than the front windows, and beginning to creep over the sidewalk and edge of the driveway.
I like to prune them in the fall once all the blooms are gone, even though I know they’re probably better off being pruned in the winter.
Our trash and recycling gets picked up on Fridays, so it was the perfect opportunity to bang it out before they picked up.

I trimmed the butterfly bushes down to a manageable size.
Pulled all the weeds.
Did a little maintenance on the purple clematis that climbs the lamp post.
Cut back the peonies.
Potted three little mums to transition the front porch to Autumn.
When I came back in the house, I hand washed a vase and pitcher. (note to self, make more iced tea)
Stripped and remade the bed.
Bathed.
Started the laundry.

I have this children’s book called Feed Matisse’s Fish. It’s a touch and feel book about art, designed to expose children to 20th century art while providing a tactile experience. The book starts out, “Tick Tock it’s 8 o’clock, it’s time to feed the fish.” it goes on for each o’clock with a new painting. Each page ends “What a busy day.”
I remembered that book Friday morning. Reading it to two, three, and four year olds, hearing their little voices saying “What a busy day!”
What a busy day! And all before 10:00.

As much as I want to be in the school building with people I care about, I’ll take those busy days at home.
Friday left me feeling accomplished and content, with the majority of the day ahead of me.

whole lotta lula and one perfect plaid pumpkin

I lula(ed) for the last three days straight. #wholelottalula
Friday night was a swap with four other consultants. Gave us a chance to freshen up our inventory and meet new people while we were at it. While all the women were nice enough, I especially liked one. It’ll be interesting to see if this new friendship develops. #lularoefriends
Saturday I photographed all the new merch. And today I returned as much to the racks as humanly possible.
When I finally loaded all the photos to my fb group page, let me tell you, the ladies were waiting like vultures! #lularoeobsessed
The new Carly dress has people absolutely salivating.

Sold seven items just by posting photos of new inventory. And not everything that sold was new. It pays to create hype…I don’t feel like I’m adept at that…but I’m learning. And finding that it’s kind of fun.
I created several adorable outfits that can only be purchased as a whole. That Randy (the baseball tee) makes me swoon. Too bad it’s not in my size.

Even went into the closet under the stairs to get props for an upcoming ‘holiday’ themed outfit and asked the question, “Any of you witches missing your hat?” #withesoflularoe

I finally quit working today when I realize it was nearly 6:00 and I hadn’t eaten since 9:00 this morning.
We ran to the bookshop to capitalize on a special extra 20% off for members that expired today. (Members already get 20% off so this was an additional 20% for a total of 40% off my entire purchase.) I ended up finding everyone’s Christmas Eve book…well, everyone but YBW. But I have time…and I was famished!
We ran to Target for a couple things and I went absolutely mad over this plaid pumpkin!

I mean, seriously. That pumpkin was made for me. #preppygirl
I’m ready for Autumn, y’all. Bring on the pumpkins. Bring on the leaves. Bring on the cool crisp air. Bring on the sweaters and jeans (and leggings) and boots. #falliswhereitsat

meet Dot

My co-teacher is an artist. I am a writer. We’ve decided to combine our talents and create a children’s book. The idea came to us rather suddenly one morning and surprised us because we couldn’t believe it took us so long to get there.
We’ve worked out the general story line…where and why it begins and where it will go. It is a story about a little girl who learns a great deal about herself in a very peculiar way. It is a story of the power of love. It is a story of hope.
We were sending snapchats back and forth today with ideas while I was out shopping for YBW with Thing C and Thing G and she was at the dealership trading in her car.

Her quick sketch of our titular character, Dot.

I’m delighted to experience this process with my darling co-teacher. I’ve been out of high school longer than she’s been alive, but the stars aligned when we came to this classroom together. We make each other better teachers. And now we’re beginning this project so close to our hearts with all the excitement of the three year olds we spend our days with!
I wish us bon courage, but mostly I wish us much fun with great love.
