something gorgeously dark and moody

Ever since we moved into this house I wanted to do something dramatic for the main floor powder room. I envisioned something gorgeously dark and moody.
It had a basic builder’s grade mirror and I started looking for a new on not long after we moved in. In my mind I saw a large circle mirror. But the more I looked, the more I wondered…it’s ten foot ceilings in there, what if I used a tall mirror? And found a fun pendant light to reflect off the mirror?
I ran this concept by YBW and he was on board.
I finally found the perfect mirror at Target of all places. (only on line)
Light fixture came from Wayfair. (on sale)

I searched out wallpaper on and off for a year before finally landing on a beautiful Victorian floral. It sat for a bit while we did other things, but Sunday of Labor Day weekend, YBW and I took a few hours to get it up. And no bickering, even though I got ridiculously frustrated and rage quit for about three minutes before going back in and finishing it up.

I’m so pleased with the way it turned out!

As I was standing in there admiring our hard work, YBW said, “Now, do the walls stay white?”
I was just thinking the same thing. We were specific about wanting all white walls so we could bring color in textiles and art and furniture and decor. But as we looked at that gorgeous wallpaper we both wondered if the other walls needed changing.
Stay tuned…
Even over a year later, we’re still making this house our home and I am so here for it!

continuing to make this house our home

The day after Christmas, YBW and I went out in search of a coffee table.
I ordered one in August and it’s been delayed four times now, the latest delay puts delivery the end of January. And while I’m realistic about the current state of the world, especially when it comes to the supply chain, I was tired of waiting.
And we were kind of questioning our choice anyway…

We planned an entire day for exploration, but we found success at our fourth store.
We chose a two piece set of nesting tables. YBW came up with the idea of adding a second of the lower tables to the original pair.

We initially ordered an enormous square coffee table. It was YBW’s vision from the moment we knew we’d live here.
But with these three smaller tables, we have more freedom of use, which to be perfectly honest, makes more sense for the way we live. We can move them about our living room as needed.
And I’m all about the fact they’re so mid-century!

Of course, we have to wait six more weeks, but it’s a guaranteed six weeks, not this maybe in five months situation in which we’ve found ourselves.

We finally found the perfect rugs for our living and bedroom, they shipped early and arrived the week before Christmas.
Thing 1, Husband N, and even Baby K helped us lay the big one in the living room. The one for our bedroom is rolled up waiting to be laid. Our bed is so damn heavy, it’s going to take proper planning to make getting it set work.

We’re prioritizing our home needs as we move into the new year.
A closet system is at the top of our list.
After that comes the fridge I wanted instead of the one I had to settle for, two new sofas, wallpaper, and having the TV mounted on the wall.
There are other things too, smaller things, I just can’t remember what they are at the moment.

We haven’t planned an order for any of these things other than the closet system.
We’re not in a hurry.
We’ve lived in this house a few days less than five months and continue to make it our home each day we’re here.
We have time.

it’s (meteorological) fall, y’all

Autumn is my most favorite time of year!
It’s still eighty degrees out, but I’m embracing all things fall.
I’m all about pumpkins and leaves and cotton up in here (up in here)

This is what it looks like when the pumpkins aren’t gathered up by Baby K.

There are other little collections in the living room, but I chose to share this one because I like the way it looks best.

My God, y’all! The light in this house never ceases to amaze me.

all the Sunday dinner vibes

They delivered our custom made dining table last Thursday morning.
All.
Ten.
Feet.
Of.
It.

I have ALL the Sunday dinner vibes!
YBW and Thing 1 are already talking about Thanksgiving.

I’m so excited for our friends and fam to come feast with us at this ginormous table!
I’m also pretty excited about deciding how to style it…

This house becomes our home a little more each day, y’all!

late night wallpaper browsing

The other night when I couldn’t sleep I got online and started looking at wallpaper.
I know. I know. How random can one girl be?
Pretty freaking random.
But, decor!

I want to do some bold dramatic wallpaper in a couple of places in the new house. At least one wall of the main level powder room, the laundry room, and the ceiling of our bedroom.

Wallpaper has a bad rap, you know? Like, it’s old fashioned, something to do with a grandmother’s house, that kind of stuff. But I gotta tell you, I’m totally feeling some of the wallpaper I saw the other night.

I’m particularly obsessed with this water color floral from Olivia + Poppy.

It’s just whimsical enough to interest me without being ‘too much’ and I’m feeling it for my laundry room.
Maybe.
I mean, I just started looking, right?

Another thing I’m obsessing over is organization.
The Container Store has this Elfa system I’m planning to use on the door of the pantry.

Between this place, Target, and Home Goods, I’m going to have a seriously gorgeous organizational situation in the new house!

YBW has finalized his must haves to make the house smart. I’m riding shotgun on that, but enthusiastic about being able to say, “Zhu Li, do the thing.”
He’s spent time researching his most desired things and creating a color coded key on copies of the floor plans to make sure he’s got it all exactly where he wants it.
Y’all, watching him with those colored pencils fed my dork soul!

I don’t know where he’s going to land on the wallpaper front, but I’m confident his opinion is positive when it comes to organization.
It’s cool, cause while I know where I land on the wallpaper front, I’ll enjoy the looking until I make some choices.

a great break

I spent my Spring Break visiting Thing 1 and husband N in their new (to them) home! I enjoyed being in a new role with my daughter. Being on her turf. Though she was quick to utilize my mad organizational skills to help her finish getting settled.
With all sincerity, we enjoyed being together in this new way. Our love was deep and wide and so pure. Even though the drive was a bite in my ass, I’m so pleased I went and shared that time with her.

At the county plant farm I was amazed to find affordably priced plants of top quality. So many herbs I couldn’t even choose! Trees priced for real people, with real incomes. I was awed by the plant life and garden supplies. One trip just isn’t enough.
Thing 1 went home with this gorgeous hanging basket fuchsia.

My mobile carrier has no towers in this particular part of Georgia, so I spent the week with spotty cell signal. And you know what? It was kind of cool to be disconnected! I did speak with YBW every couple days just to touch base.
What I found myself missing was baseball. (natch) But to my delight, I was able to take in a T ball game while I was there. Husband N’s little cousin plays in the county rec league for the Yankees. So Thing 1 and I went to watch that sweet little dude play ball.
I loved this sign reminding us to pay attention.

As much HGTV as I watch, you’d think I’d know how sugar molds are huge in home decor right now. Yet I found myself surprised to discover sugar molds at Corner Market Trading Company. This little shop run by these precious people made me oh so happy!
Thing 1, Husband N, and I were as kids in a candy shop in this place! I found several things I’d like to have at home, but what I actually ended up purchasing was a sugar mold. In addition to it being painted the perfect Robynbird color, it reminded me of our honeymoon in Barbados visiting the sugar plantations. I simply couldn’t leave without it.
Wanna see what I did with it?
Yeah, I knew you would!

I debated between making the sugar mold a home for these gel pens or my amazing colored pencils. In the end, the gel pens won out because I couldn’t bear to mix up the ordered perfection of the colored pencils in their metal box.
YBW walked by my desk and chuckled, “You put them in color order.”
Well duh!
Then he patted my bottom when he passed me and said, “Of course you did.”
I could hear the smile in his voice.

I had a great Spring Break!
Spent time with my girl and her sweet husband.
Got to see gorgeous plants.
Went to a ball game.
Did a little shopping.
Bought a super stylish (and meaningful) way to sort my ever growing collection of pens.
And I got home in time to go to see the Nats beat the Phillies!
I forgot being on a school schedule is the absolute best!
